Revisiting My Grandma's Quilt - Colour Selection and Finished Sample on 24 Count Congress Cloth
Final Colour Selection for 24 count Congress Cloth
I have finally figured out what threads I would like to use on Congress cloth and it will be a great departure from the original colourway.

After all of the practice blocks were stitched, I was a little tired of pink so I’ve taken my colour choices into the blues and greens. I have kept the same neutral colour threads as in the original sample.
Below is my thread lineup for 24 count congress cloth. I have indicated which blocks I have used for each thread.
I used 2 strands of floss for all of the blocks with only 1 exception. Three strands were used on the center stitch in block 5 (I wanted a little more coverage).
Neutrals (overdyed) (both of these threads are the same as in the original colourway)
Block 4a - Onion Skin - Classic Colourworks
Block 4b - Stepping Stone - Classic Colourworks
Contrast (overdyed)
Block 6 - 2196 - Scuppernog by Weeks Dye Works
Variegated - Cottage Garden Threads
Blocks 2, 8 and 12 - PB23 - Urchin
Block 1, 3, 9 and 11 - LM01 - Eucalyptus
Blocks 5, 7 and 10 - 201 - Ash
Border
DMC Perle 8 - 642
Ribbon
Gloriana Silk - 4 mm - #271 Sand Castles
Note that the Cottage Garden Threads (CGT) are precut. If you want to change the flow of the colours, alternate by starting your thread at the end of the strand and then in the middle of the strand.
Stitched sample on 24 count congress cloth
I have had some good stitching time and have power stitched through the complete design on 24 count congress cloth!
I used 2 strands of cotton floss for all of the blocks - except for the center of block 5 where I used 3 strands of floss.
The greens/blues with the neutrals worked out very well and I am happy with the thread coverage.
It’s time to focus on the thread selection for the sample on 18 count mono canvas!
