Revisiting My Grandma's Quilt - Block 9
Block 9 is the last of the stitches used in the center area of My Grandma’s Quilt.
The stitches in the corner areas (blocks 10, 11 and 12) have already been covered in previous posts.
We are nearing the end of stitching exploration! There will be a post on ribbon and on the border.
After that I will take a hiatus from this project for a few weeks. Then it will be time to look at colourways and thread choices for the new stitched samples.

Block 9 is stitched with large Rhodes diamonds. On the 18 count mono canvas, I test stitched the same thread weights as previous blocks:
Caron Watercolours (Perle 5 equivalent) - I like the height of this stitch with the heavier thread.
Caron Wildflowers (Perle 8 equivalent) - also very nice - I like the canvas peeking through along the edges of the stitches.
Stranded Silk - 4 strands - I like the way the silk lays on the canvas. It covers nicely and is smooth and shimmery.
All three thread weights are good choices.
24 count congress cloth
As in previous blocks both the stranded silk (2 strands) and the Wildflowers (Perle 8 equivalent) worked well on the 24 count.
There is more canvas exposed with the Wildflowers, so it comes down to personal preference. Stitch what you like best!
And lastly for comparison, the original stitched sample 2 silk strands stitched on 28 count Jobelan.
