Revisiting My Grandma's Quilt - Block 4

Revisiting My Grandma's Quilt - Block 4

Block 4 - 18 count mono canvas

I started with a Perle 5 on the 18 count and abandoned it after a few rows. The perle 5 is way too thick.

Next came perle 8 - this is much better and I like the coverage.

Lastly I stitched the block with 3 strands of cotton floss. I happened to have some of the Crescent Colours in Onion Skin left over so used that. I like the coverage. Laying tool is a must!

I think the perle 8 gave the best coverage and was the easiest to work with.  I don't mind working with multiple threads with a laying tool, but I don't think you need to do it for this block.  The perle 8 is lovely.

If you choose to use a perle 8, here is a thread substitution recommendation - DMC #422 Perle 8 is close in colour to Onion Skin and DMC #642 is similar in colour to Stepping Stone.

24 count congress cloth

I tested out 2 strands of the cotton floss first which gave the coverage I wanted.  I think that a perle 8 would also work well on the Congress cloth.

And finally, as a reference, here is block 3 from the original sample, stitched on 28 count Jobelan with 2 strands of floss.
