Revisiting My Grandma's Quilt - Block 2

Revisiting My Grandma's Quilt - Block 2

Block 2 - 18 count mono canvas
Figuring out block 2 was much easier now that block 1 has been sorted. I found the thread coverage on the 18 count was similar to block 1.

The Perle 5  (brown) gives a wonderful dimensional look to the stitch and offers great coverage.  The perle 8 (pink) did not provide as much coverage and was not my favourite.

The stranded silk lays very nicely and adds a wonderful sheen to the stitches.  I stitched a block with 3 strands and 4 strands.  I like 4 strands the best - it gives nice coverage.

To provide a better example, I also stitched this block with the Watercolours thread. I am finding that the perle 5 weight threads aren't behaving as nicely on the painted canvas (I think I may have used too much paint which has caused the holes to be a little smaller).  The heavier weights are harder to pull through the canvas holes and got "fuzzy" very quickly.  NOTE:  If you paint your canvas, make sure you don't use too much paint - a way to mitigate would be to thin the paint.
Again, I prefer the stranded silk over the perle on the 18 count and 4 strands offers the coverage that I like best.

You’ll need to decide what your preference is!
Block 2 - 24 count congress cloth
Similar to block 1, I continued with the stranded silk for block 2.

You could also easily stitch this block on the 24 count with Caron Wildflowes, or any other perle #8 weight thread.

For now I am happy with the coverage that 3 strands of silk provide on the congress cloth.

These two test blocks were stitched with Caron Waterlilies - Green Tea (which is the colour called for in the pattern).

For comparison, here's a close up of block 2 on the original sample which is stitched on 28 count Jobelan.
